The institute was established in the year 2007, the idea of starting a medical college was of acharya Samantha, the construction of the college was completed in the year 2004. In 2007 KIMS was given to the college-permission to start the MBBS program by the MIC.

In 2009, the Kalinga Institute of medical sciences got the affiliation from the Uthkal University and it got permanent affiliation from the MCI (Medical Council of India) in the year 2013.
The KIMS offers academic programs at the UG and PG level in the field of medical and dental courses and there are more the 20 subjects in which the candidate can look to pursue their UG/PG program.

The candidate who wants to make their career in the medical and health sciences must qualify an entrance (side examination) now known as NEET examination (National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test). The students opting for undergraduate and postgraduate courses must clear this examination at both levels.
It is important for the student to be an Indian citizen. It is necessary for the student to have the Aadhar card and another important document. The candidate should have 17 years of age to appear in NEET examination.

The NEET examination will be conducted on 6th of May and the result will be declared in the month of June 5, 2018.
